2007-08 Shared Learning Objectives Project Information

 

SLO Meeting at NERIC - April 4, 2008 (1-3pm), Training Room 3

 

A district can choose one of three options:

Option 1 (Web Page Project)                Option 2 (Web-based Inquiry)            Option 3 (Online Course/Module)


 

OPTION 1:                                                          Web Page Project


Objective
:
Design a project that references the NY State Learning Standards and follows the SLO Format Sheet-Option 1.  The project will be written in HTML and posted as a home page or link on the NERIC or any Internet Server.  The project can be a lesson plan, activity sheet, or curriculum unit.

 

The following are requirements for this option:

 

a)         The project must include the information outlined on the SLO Format Sheet-Option 1. (also see online examples at http://slo.neric.org/projpage.htm   (District Projects)

 

b)         The project needs to be written in HTML and different from any previously submitted projects.

 

c)         A hard copy of the project, signed by your district superintendent, needs to be received before May 16, 2008.  Please mail to:

d)         The web page (HTML) version of the project must be uploaded or linked to the NERIC server before May 16, 2008.  The HTML files can be uploaded to the NERIC or any Internet-capable server.  If the project does not reside on the NERIC server, the appropriate URL (homepage address) should be indicated on the submitted hardcopy (SLO Format Sheet - Option 1) for the project  This process will be reviewed and detailed at the Fall and Spring SLO meetings.  Assistance will be available during any part of this process.

 


OPTION 2:                                                                Web-based Inquiry

 

Objective: Design a project/activity that correlates your curriculum with the NYS Learning Standards and integrates the use of the Internet.  This lesson should guide students through an open ended, web-based inquiry.  This guided activity must incorporate links to at least 5 web sites.   Use the SLO Format Sheet - Option 2 to construct your project.  Focus on the lesson Procedure, necessary Resources, Online Assessments and specific Standards you will assess.  Please include any activity sheets/assessments you will use with your students.  The project must be written in HTML format and posted as a home page or link on the NERIC or any Internet-capable server. The NERIC will provide a Blackboard account and training to assist teachers with completing this option.

b)         The online project/activity must be saved as a web page (HTML).

 

c)         The online project/activity can be hosted on the NERIC server or any other Internet server, provided you furnish the appropriate Internet address (URL).

 

d)         A paper copy of the project (lesson and any associated files), signed by your superintendent, needs to be submitted before May 16, 2008.  Please mail to:

Objective: Design an online course/module that can be used by your students as a supplement to the class curriculum.  The project should contain the following elements: instructions, pre and post assessments, curricular materials or documents, assignments, and links to relevant online sites.  The appropriate reference to the NY State Learning Standards will be made by following the SLO Format Sheet-Option 3The NERIC will provide a Blackboard account and training to assist teachers with completing this option.

Glossary of Terms and Miscellaneous Instructions

(for SLO Project Options)

 

Learning context - Standards and Performance Indicators taken from SED publications.

 

Standards - NY State Learning Standards.  All standards referenced in your project should be written out along with any numbered key ideas.  You will need the full-length Standard for whatever curricular area you are referencing.

 

      Example:

Math, Science and Technology

(Standard 1 - Analysis, Inquiry and Design)

Elementary

 

Students will use mathematical analysis, scientific inquiry, and engineering design, as appropriate, to pose questions, seek answers, and develop solutions.

(Mathematical Analysis)

 

Students:

  2) Deductive and inductive reasoning are used to reach mathematical conclusions.

 

Performance Indicators - found directly in the full-length Standards.  Do not make up your own! Cite the pertinent performance indicators listed under the Standard.

 

    Example:

*  use simple logical reasoning to develop conclusions, recognizing that patterns and relationships present in the environment assist them in reaching these conclusions.

 

Assessments - the part of your project that explains how you measure student performance.  You will need to describe these.

 

    Example:

1) Successful completion and submission of Observation Recording Forms.

2) Creation of spreadsheet files containing recorded data.

3) Mastery of spreadsheet software and graphs to complete project.

 

Online Assessments - used in Option 2 and 3.  These are the actual quizzes, tests, and worksheets etc., used in the project. These can be links to websites that host or create such assessments, such as www.quia.com, blackboard.neric.org or web pages created with programs that create assessments in HTML or JavaScript code, such as Hot Potatoes and The Quiz Factory

 

Student Outcomes (Exemplars) - the outcome(s) or end-result of your project.  Cite specific examples of what you expect your students to do.

 

    Example:

1) Develops a conclusion based on the analysis of Study/TV time data.

2) Uses activities from home/school - time spent studying and TV watching

                 time.

            3) Use of Observation Recording Forms, creation of line, bar, and stacked

                 bar graphs.

 

Procedure - describe in narrative form what the students and teacher are supposed to do and the interactions among and between both.

 

Instructional Modifications - describe any procedures used to accommodate disabled, LEP (Limited English Proficiency) or bilingual students.

 

Time Required - how long does it take to complete your project or lesson.

 

Resources (materials):- note any materials, software, hardware, web sites etc., necessary to complete your project or lesson.

 

Reflections - offer any personal comments on your project or lesson.  Specifically, why was the lesson developed?  What did you learn from implementing this lesson?  Indicate, any feedback received by your peers, if applicable.
